Base64 Encode & Decode

Encode text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to text. Supports UTF-8 (emoji and every language) and URL-safe Base64 used in JWTs.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded.

What is Base64?

Base64 turns any data into plain text made of 64 safe characters (A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /). It is used to put binary data into places that only accept text — email attachments, data URLs in HTML and CSS, and API tokens such as JWTs.

Encoded text is about 33% bigger than the original, so it is not a way to save space.

Frequently asked questions

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords or secrets.

Does it support emoji and non-English text?

Yes. Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes before encoding, so Hindi, Tamil, emoji and any other characters encode and decode correctly.

What is URL-safe Base64?

Normal Base64 uses + and / which have special meaning in URLs. URL-safe Base64 replaces them with - and _ and usually drops the = padding. JWT tokens use URL-safe Base64.
